A little quote goes a long way

Updated: Nov 22, 2020

I am a lover of quotes. I collect them. I use them as a teacher, as a writer, as a mother.

I am pretty certain that most people feel the same. I did wonder if it was just a female thing. So, I asked my husband.

Do you like quotes?

‘Yes.’

‘Why?’

‘I like it when somebody gets right to the essence and nails something succinctly.’

I like this explanation.

For me, they inspire and give me strength. Lighting a path towards my goals. These little phrases and sentences have the power to build our confidence, take risks, face challenges and heal.

I am a writer who writes by night and teaches by day. I’m working on my first novel, a short story anthology, planning a children’s chapter book series and learning the craft of freelance writing. My goal is to publish. It’s not a dream. It’s pure hard work. When self-doubt, tiredness or frustration make an appearance, my favourite quotes can make such a difference to my state of mind. They are written on coloured post-it-notes and stuck onto the wall above my desk. These quotes are little muses that watch over me. Inspiring me to keep going.

The following are twelve of my favourite quotes at the moment. As I grow as a writer these may change. For now, I’m sharing my little word angels with you. Maybe one, or two, or all of them, may help you in your own journey as a writer.
